Scholarships
Each year, the Mortgage Bankers Association of St. Louis presents two scholarships – named in honor of John J. Naunheim and Solon Gershman. The Scholarships are awarded to an employee or a dependent of a member firm who will attend an accredited college or university full-time.
A committee comprised of the Executive Board and 4 Past Presidents reviewed the applications and selected the recipients.

John J. Naunheim was a pioneer in the mortgage banking industry. Loyalty, integrity and honesty are all words that have been used to describe his character and business demeanor. Jerry, as he was called, gave more than he took, cared deeply for his employees and gave people, who never thought they could own a home, the opportunity. Jerry was the type of person who did business with a handshake and a smile. For this we have named one of our scholarships to honor his memory and years of dedication to our industry.
Solon Gershman was a business leader in every sense of the word. His professionalism and straight forward approach to doing business were highly respected traits. His character was to know and care about all the people around him including his employees. Besides mortgage banking, Mr. Gershman was an appraiser, developer, and realtor. He not only made our industry better, he made our community better through his charitable efforts. For this and his many other contributions, we honor his memory with this scholarship.
